The first Saturday of May, aka Kentucky Derby day! Since I was a kid I have always made it a point to watch the Kentucky derby. For me, its all about watching the horses and learning each ones unique story and history that has brought it to this coveted race. I decided to switch things up this year and since I'm of age and living for the first time in an area with a racetrack, I put some money on the line who-hoo! My pick this year was a 3 year old Grey Thoroughbred colt named Paddy O Prado. He had a solid racing history with 6 top 3 places out of 7 total starts (1 win 2 places and 3 shows, very impressive!) His exercising breezes the week of the derby were also a indicator that he was feeling good and prepared to run in the mud on derby day. And yeah, it didn't hurt that this horse happened to be my favorite color for an equine species.
(Paddy O Prado)Carrying on, I decided to split my bet and put half of my money on Paddy #10 and the other half on a favorite named Lookin at Lucky #1. As it turns out Paddy O Prado gave the winner a run for its money but ended up 3rd and my second bet, Lookin at Lucky, finished a respectable 6th place. I was out 12$, darn, but the real pay off for me was still there through yet another fun filled day of horse ogling:)

(Super Saver is the winner in front wearing the white silks and Paddy o Prado is 3rd closets to the rail in the green/yellow silks.)
(Proof of my first Derby bet.)
