Circle K For Us....Shower For Sparky

Today was one of if not THE hottest days (115 degrees +!!!!) I've spent here in Phoenix thus far and excessive heat warnings were popping up all over the valley. With Mom and Dad off to visit Grandma and Grandpa D., me and Parker were left to entertain ourselves. A much needed trip to Circle K gave me the idea to go visit Spark and allow him some refreshing of his own in form of a cool hose down. Parker was along for the ride and what started as a somewhat reluctant task turned out to be the highlight of his day.

These two were reunited after not seeing each other for years and Parker turned into the biggest chatter box (imagine that) asking all kinds of questions and observing every move the horses made.

Of course the friendly horse that Sparky is he nickered the instant he saw us and was happy to smoother Parker with tons of "big slobbery kisses."

Another purpose of this visit was for me to check on Sparkys swollen leg. I still don't have an exact diagnosis, it could be a lot of things that is causing the inflammation, but I'm pretty sure its narrowed down to a few. Either a sunburn, scratches, stocking up from immobility, or this awful heat could all be the cause of it. As far as I can tell, he isn't lame which is a good sign that this is a minor swelling case, and with some luck and love I'm hoping it will go down in the next few days.

This is a picture of his two front feet which are both not swollen. Notice the definition of ligaments and tendons on his cannon bone.

This is a picture of his swollen right hind. Both hinds are inflamed but the right hind with the sock is far more dramatic. This isn't the best angle but you can notice how much more puffy and stocky the cannon bone is. You can hardly see any tendon definition:(

I was wanting to take more pictures but me and Parker were literally melting away with all the sweating we were doing. All in all, Spark got a nice cool shower, a brief walk, and Parker enjoyed a lot of talking and learning about the horses. Fun fun fun! Now if someone could please just turn this thermostats down lol.
